Who am I kidding...was? Am. I AM a nerd. And I'm totally ok with it. I started re-reading The Hobbit yesterday, and I'm falling in love all over again. This honestly is one of the greatest books of all time. (But then again, I'm a little biased.) When I was in 6th grade, I taught myself to read and write in some runes that I found in a dictionary. When I started reading The Fellowship of The Ring, I realized that Tolkien's "Dwarvish" runes were almost identical, and that I could read a large amount of the dwarvish written on maps within the book. I was floored, and it created an instant love of LOTR.
I've always loved reading. When I was a kid, my mom would punish me by not letting me read books when I misbehaved. I would read anything that I could get my hands on. (I have read so many shampoo bottles and toothpaste tubes it's not even funny.) I particularly loved (and still love) the classics: Jane Austen, LOTR, the Little House on the Prarie series, The Chronicles of Narnia, etc. I prefer that old-fashioned style of writing where they didn't dumb things down and use little words so that mindless droves would flock to their literature. And even better, the books are incredible classics without being filled with sex, cursing, and violence. (Ok, well, LOTR has violence, but not graphic violence.) I think literature really shaped who I am today, and I will always, always love books. As long as I live.
